Amalgamated Transit Union Local 639 was formed on July 10, 1913.

The ATU was formed in 1892 for the common purpose of bargaining collectively to improve wages, benefits and working conditions.

Local 639 represents maintenance staff and bus operators at Lextran in Lexington, KY.
